How We Started

Wag Ranch was born from a simple idea: to provide healthier, more sustainable meat alternatives for our pets. Parker Wood, a longtime pet lover, discovered the benefits of ostrich meat while searching for a hypoallergenic and low-fat protein source for his own dogs.

Our Journey

Since opening our doors in 2023, Wag Ranch has grown from a local startup to a brand beloved by pet owners across the country. We’ve expanded our range, but our signature ostrich meat sticks remain a favorite, known for their quality and the palpable difference they make in pets’ health.

2021

Choosing a Protein

Our journey began with a quest to find a protein source that was not only sustainable and eco-friendly but also novel and beneficial for dogs with digestive issues or allergies. Ostrich meat was identified as an optimal choice due to its low-fat content, hypoallergenic properties, and lower environmental impact compared to traditional livestock.

2022

Starting a Ranch

The following year was all about laying the groundwork. We purchased our first ostrich and embarked on the challenging yet rewarding process of learning how to raise them. We built specialized structures to protect them from the harsh Alberta winter, ensuring their well-being and setting the stage for sustainable farming practices.

2023

Crafting a Formula

Our focus shifted towards creating the perfect dog treat. We dedicated the year to sourcing the best ingredients and conducting rigorous testing to formulate a treat without preservatives. Our commitment to natural, wholesome pet food drove our efforts to develop a recipe that was both healthy and irresistible to pets.

2024

First Product Launched!

A significant milestone for Wag Ranch with the launch of our first product—the Ostrich Meat Stick! This product embodies our commitment to quality and innovation, offering pet owners a nutritious and eco-friendly option for their beloved dogs, made from responsibly raised ostriches at our ranch.
